Wrong Way Accident Kills Milwaukee Man
A 50 year old man from Milwaukee was recently killed and three other individuals were injured after a wrong way accident on a Friday night in mid-November. The individual, who suffered fatal wounds, was in the wrong lane of traffic and also speeding when he swerved into another car head on just prior to 10pm between Concordia and Teutonia Avenues.
The man died at the scene instantly. A 35 year-old driver in the other car as well as two female passengers were taken to a hospital where their injuries were determined to be non-life threatening. As the holiday season quickly approaches in Milwaukee, it is imperative to be mindful about the potential for drivers operating their vehicles on the wrong side of the street.
In some cases, this is because drivers have difficulty seeing at night or are not paying proper attention, but more often than not a wrong way accident is caused by someone who has been drinking and driving. As the holidays are one of the most popular times for drinking and driving, if you notice a car on the wrong side of the road, contact the authorities immediately and move your vehicle out of the roadway as quickly as possible.
Wrong way accidents can lead to some of the most serious injuries or even fatal wounds as a result of the fact that drivers operating their vehicle on the right side of the road did not expect a car to be coming from the wrong direction.
Unfortunately in many of these wrong way car accidents in Milwaukee, by the time it is realized that the driver is going the wrong way, it is too late to prevent an accident from happening. You can do your part by always using a designated driver and making sure to use proper lights while operating a vehicle at night, paying attention to where you are going and using a GPS system as well as taking your time on the roadway will also reduce the opportunity for driving on the wrong side of the road.
If you or someone you know has been injured because of another driver proceeding down the wrong side of the roadway, you may be entitled to compensation under a personal injury claim. Contact an experienced personal injury attorney to talk about your options and determine whether filing a claim could help you focus on recovering from the accident. Trying to deal with missing time at work and getting the medical attention you need is not always easy.
Sadly, many individuals who are hurt on the scene of a wrong way accident may take weeks or months to recover. Those with the most serious injuries may never recover from this serious accident and this is why Wisconsin personal injury law is there to protect you if you are indeed eligible for compensation. Contact an attorney today to walk through your options and determine if filing a claim is the right move for you.
