Teen Killed in Milwaukee WI Car Wreck

A 14-year-old female passenger was killed when the SUV she was riding in collided with a tree near 35th and Hayes in Milwaukee, WI around 8:35 p.m. on Sunday, November 8th. The passenger has been identified as Zaira Tellez, a student at St. Anthony’s school in Milwaukee.

According to Milwaukee police, Tellez was riding in an SUV which was being driven by her friend, a 14-year-old girl. The driver lost control of the vehicle while driving north on S. 35th Street at a high rate of speed, and slammed into a tree along the roadway. Tellez was ejected from the car.

Jose Vasquez, president of St. Anthony School, released a statement about the accident:

“It is with great sadness and deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our St. Anthony familia.  On November 8, 2015, Zaira Tellez, an 8th grade student at St. Anthony School was involved in an automobile accident and passed away. She was the daughter of our administration receptionist, Martha Tellez, and the brother of our 7th grade student Manuel Tellez. Funeral details are pending.”

The driver and two other passengers, a 15-year-old male and a 15-year-old female, were taken to a nearby hospital with non life threatening injuries. The driver has been charged with Operating Without a License – Causing Death.

This is a sad incident where serious injuries and loss of life struck far too early, and for seemingly no reason. Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this accident.
